BMW Group and Tata Technologies Establish Joint Venture for IT Development in India
According to a press release, the BMW Group and Tata Technologies, a global leader in product engineering and digital services, have inked a deal to establish a joint venture (JV) aimed at creating a software and IT development hub in Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai, India. While the primary development and operations activities will be centered in Bangalore and Pune, Chennai will focus on business IT solutions. The formation of the JV is contingent upon review and approval by relevant authorities.
Operating under the principle of ‘Engineer in India for the World,’ this JV will harness Tata Technologies’ digital engineering proficiency and talent pool to bolster the BMW Group's software coding capabilities across global IT hubs and ensure round-the-clock operations. The focus will be on strategic software development, particularly in software-defined vehicles (SDV), automated driving, infotainment, and digital services. The JV plans to start with 100 trained Tata Technologies professionals, with significant expansion projected in the coming years.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture at BMW Group, highlighted the collaboration's significance, emphasizing India's wealth of software talent. Alexander Buresch, CIO and Senior Vice President of BMW Group IT, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the success of international DevOps hubs.
Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, citing the alignment with their vision of engineering excellence. Nachiket Paranjpe, President of Automotive Sales at Tata Technologies, stressed the importance of the shift towards software-defined vehicles in the automotive industry, affirming their commitment to delivering exceptional experiences worldwide.
