Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility solutions, is making a significant investment in its Hungarian bogie frame factory located in Mátranovák. Through a HUF 6 billion (€15.4 million) development program launched as part of the Mátranovák 2030 Programme, the company aims to boost production capacity by 40% by 2025.
This ambitious plan involves several key upgrades:
- State-of-the-art machinery: The factory will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including new bending machines, advanced 3D measurement systems, a modern plasma cutting machine, and nearly 60 new rotators. Additionally, a new welding robot will be deployed.
- New production methods: A shift towards a cell-based production system will improve efficiency and optimize space utilization.
- Workforce expansion: To support the increased production capacity, Alstom plans to hire nearly 150 new employees, including welders, locksmiths, CNC machinists, engineers, and project managers. The company has established its own welding and locksmith school to address the growing demand for skilled professionals.
Positive Impact
This development program has the potential to impact Alstom's operations and the Hungarian economy significantly:
- Increased production: The Mátranovák factory is poised to become one of the most important bogie frame manufacturing facilities within Alstom in Europe. Bogie frames produced here will be used in railway vehicles across Europe, solidifying Hungary's reputation in the railway component production sector.
- Job creation: The expansion will create nearly 150 new jobs, providing opportunities for skilled professionals in the region.
- Technological advancements: The investment in new machinery will ensure the factory remains at the forefront of bogie frame production technology.
This investment highlights Alstom's long-standing commitment to the Hungarian railway sector. The company has been operating in Hungary for over 20 years and is a major supplier of metro trains, having manufactured half of Budapest's metro trains for lines 2 and 4, including the first driverless metros in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, Alstom has successfully modernized a significant portion of MÁV-Start's electric passenger trains.
With the Mátranovák 2030 Programme, Alstom is solidifying its position as a key player in the Hungarian railway industry, contributing to a safer, more efficient, and more modern railway network for the country.
